Our Story
A Kimberley-based Islamic institute carrying Ta'leem, Social Welfare and Tableegh to communities across the Northern Cape and Free State.
Our History
Since 1974
Alhamdulillah, through the grace of Allah Ta'ala, Miftahuddin Islamic Institute has been in existence for over fifty years, since its inception in 1974. The Institute was established primarily for the assistance of poor and underprivileged people who ascribe to the Islamic faith, and secondarily for the needs of other underprivileged people wherever possible.
Assistance has been extended in many forms over the decades — distributing food parcels and clothing, slaughtering and distributing meat, running feeding schemes, facilitating religious education, offering moral guidance and counselling, arranging funerals, educating prisoners, seeing to the expenses of religious ceremonies such as marriages, distributing money, food and clothing for the Eid festivals, and maintaining the Darul 'Ajaaib Islamic Museum as a source of Da'wah to visitors.
Each year, the Mini-Mina Qurbani Camp sees approximately 400 sheep, goats and cows slaughtered, with the meat distributed to Muslims and non-Muslims alike, while Ramadhaan brings Iftaar and Sehri to Miftahuddin's centres — and to the inmates of the prisons it serves.
A Legacy of Knowledge
Ulama Raised, Communities Served
Over the decades, close to forty Huffadh and thirty Ulama have qualified through Miftahuddin's efforts, alongside many Daa'ees, Aalimahs, Apas and Haafidhas. Alhamdulillah, they remain engaged in Deeni Khidmah — teaching in Madaaris or leading Salaah in Masaajid across the network.

Why Our Work Matters
In today's world, where the gap between the rich and poor continues to grow, social welfare work is more important than ever. Miftahuddin Islamic Institute, built on values of compassion, justice and community support, is dedicated to fighting poverty and helping those in need.
Social welfare is all about helping people who are struggling to meet their basic needs — food, clothing, education and shelter. For us, these actions are more than charity; they are part of our Imaan and our commitment to Islamic teaching. Zakat, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, requires Muslims to give a portion of their wealth to those less fortunate — not only to purify wealth, but to ensure the community thrives.
Poverty affects millions worldwide, leading to a lack of essentials like food, shelter and education. Our goal is to break this cycle by providing financial help and education to those in need, empowering people to improve their lives and contribute to society.
Our Foundation
Ta'leem, Social Welfare & Tableegh
Ta'leem — Education
The Makaatib system is the backbone of our educational efforts. Besides empowering children through education, it serves as their primary connection to the Deen of Islam — essential to the preservation of their Imaan and Islamic identity. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim."
Social Welfare — Khidmah
Our welfare work strengthens community bonds by bringing people together through feeding schemes, bursaries, hostels and assistance to the poor, orphans and travellers. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others."
Tableegh — Outreach & Ukhuwwah
By encouraging mutual support and collective action, Miftahuddin fosters Ukhuwwah in line with the Qur'an: "The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy." (49:10)

Our Educational Philosophy
Miftahuddin holds that seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim, and that the preservation of Islamic identity begins in childhood. Through the Makaatib system, feeding schemes and community welfare, education and compassion are treated as inseparable — each strengthening the other in service of a fair and God-conscious society.
